Saturday 29th October 2022.
The council should be cutting the grass this week (10th – 15th October) and Highlife Highland Ranger Paul Castle is hoping to organise a day in conjunction with the group to carry out the very important annual work of raking the grass at the Farr Glebe.
This year, as part of our Sow Farr Sow Good project, the group have been collecting seed from the Glebe for propagation and return to the site in order to increase the amount of flowering (more details at Farr Glebe seed collecting). Another important way of encouraging more flowering in the meadow is to keep the fertility of the soil low. Raking off the cut grass once it is dry is an important way of controlling fertility levels.
As many people as possible are needed – many hands make light work! There will be spare rakes but if you have your own, please bring it along. Come and do as little or as much as you want, bring a packed lunch – it’s a great social event.
This is a good, hands-on, way of helping your local wildlife and keeping the Farr Glebe Bumblebee Reserve in top condition.
Watch this space, along with our Facebook page, for further details and confirmation of the date.
