A familiar, summer visitor to the UK and although falling numbers are of concern in the south, still widespread in Scotland.
Leeches don’t have many fans, but they are still fascinating creatures. Few people notice them or record their sightings, so we know very little about their status and distribution, especially in north Scotland.
This article is my attempt to pass on some of the information I have gathered about these fascinating invertebrates.
With its long narrow tail, over half of body length, the species is easy to identify.
